our senior adults
Today, major emphasis is placed on younger
groups and, no doubt, this is the way it should be for the benefit of present
and future generations. Enormous sums of money are allocated to education and on
expanding technological innovations. While there is an increasing emphasis on
the welfare of younger folks and on educational, medical and scientific
improvements, there is a corresponding decreasing emphasis on the interests of
our senior citizens.
Many of the whiz-bang-do-everything-in-a-box will come to the marketplace today
and be replaced by more sophisticated inventions tomorrow without ever getting
noticed by many seniors. When some seniors think of heavy metal, they probably
conjure up an image of a blacksmith's anvil on a workbench.
We must recognize that in our country there have been changes over the years in
music appreciation, clothing styles and personal behavior. Our seniors would
enjoy the opportunity to occasionally reach back over time by means of
entertainment in a form that they remember from years gone by.
For this reason, I would like to develop a means for entertaining seniors at
senior citizen centers and at other community events on a rotating basis. To
brighten the spirits of seniors in this way would be like watching a flower
blossom.
